Nurse Myra Bennett House ...
Nurse Myra Bennett
Myra Bennett was known along
the 200 miles of coast of the
Northern Peninsula of
Newfoundland & Labrador,
that was her responsibility
simply as "the nurse".
The Evening Telegram once
dubbed her "The Florence
Nightingale of Newfoundland."
But whatever she was called,
she was the only medical
assistance for many people
along that isolated stretch of
Newfoundland's coast.
“A Life of Service”
The Bennett House is located in the town of
Daniel’s Harbour. Built in 1922, this two
story traditional house was home to Nurse
Bennett for 68 years. In addition to the
medical clinic, the house includes a kitchen,
pantry, dining room, parlour, four bedrooms
and bathroom. Period furniture, Nurse
Bennett’s medical instruments and records
will bring you the visitor, back in time to the
1920’s.
When visiting the Viking Trail, plan a tour of
the Bennett House and experience the life of Nurse Bennett. This remarkable woman brought life
saving skills to what was then an isolated, rugged Great Northern Peninsula.
